Gas Tax Holiday? Are You Kidding Me?

The proposed gas tax holiday by both Senators McCain and Clinton is preposterous. This falls under the same stupidity that Speaker Pelosi showed by asking to reduce the oil being sent to the strategic oil reserves. All this to save a few cents per gallon when the market is blowing that amount a way on a weekly basis as prices continue to skyrocket out of control? Get Real! At least Obama has the sense to say no to this idea.

Stop the political gesticulating and start making moves to solve the problem. This is all happy horse-poop leading up to the elections. Face it, they’re not feeling the pain at the pump with their income levels. And what’s going to happen this October when home heating oil is hovering between $4 and $5 per gallon? I say everyone who can’t afford oil to heat their homes should find a way to make it down to Washington D.C. and stage a sit in on the Capital steps. NOW. Not later.

The government needs to take definitive action putting in place a strong set of core initiatives to develop gasoline alternatives that are not tied to our food chain. We’ve already seen that biodiesel will only make things worse, not better. Food riots are taking place around the world. We all know that people lash out in mobs when they have uncontrollable fear, anger, hatred and frustration. Is the government going to be reactive or proactive to ward this off?

Right now the market economy is not finding the answers we need. This is where the government needs to step in and force the issue. Need funding? Demand that the big oil companies use 25% of their billions of profits toward the development of sustainable fuel alternatives instead of the paltry few million or so they say they are using. These dinosaurs are milking the energy market for everything its worth without taking their social responsibility seriously. They know they have us over a barrel, hanging out to dry.

There is serious talk about using H2O, water from the tap. Break it down into gases by electrolysis and burn off the hydrogen. Here’s one site that proposes this technology, http://www.waterforfuel.com/.  By developing alternate fuels for automobile consumption we’ll take the pressure off of home heating oil and all prices will come down to more manageable levels.

Every technology has its inherent dangers. The United States was built on risk, taking chances for a better tomorrow. This dates back to Columbus charting the unknown in search of a new way to the East Indies. We need to suck it up and start taking those chances once again.
